József Csató (b. 1980, Mezőkövesd) graduated in 2006 from the painting department of the Hungarian University of Fine Arts in the class of Dóra Maurer. He won the Derkovits Gyula Scholarship in three years (2013, 2014, 2015), in 2013 he received the prominent Esterházy Award. He has appeared in several solo and group exhibitions at home, but the artist, who is also a regular at foreign exhibitions, has already performed several times in Stuttgart, Berlin and Vienna. His works are included in the most important local and international private and public collections. His works are generally said to explore and vary the potential of a form in a repetitive way.
In the case of his very first lithography co-created with HEART & CHERRY LIMITED EDITIONS, motifs of plant forms, hybrid figures reminiscent of figures, tubes, drops, and tiles appear in his sensual works that evoke colours. In a dissolved visual world characterised by humor and playfulness, the simple language of forms meets pop cultural and art historical references.
